Here is what the creators have to say about the new 100% Solid brass Snareweight
‘Similar to the #4, but will accept a wider range of insert accessories. Also, we have added a leather “extra grip” option for triple flange hoops. Just pull it out of the channel and over the magnet to read “EXTRA GRIP” and slide in into place. This will prevent the #5 from moving in tiny amounts over time with hard hitting drummers. The second simple feature is a cutaway to except our mono trigger (sold separately but at a great price). Nothing else has changed or needed to charge from the #4. All prior inserts from other Snareweight models will work exactly the same. As they say in computer land, it’s backward compatible. The 3rd difference is the rustic brown leather we chose for the standard insert. It’s a bit brighter sounding with a more cutting rim shot. We all agree it sounds a bit tougher when the head is hit hard. Insert choice does make a difference and again, all older inserts work with the new #5. If you looking for a #4 it’s back in year 2016 and 2017- heh heh… Time ticks on……..be rrrrocking good and find those choice beats of the future!!’

What has Improved since the last edition?
Since the 1st designs of 2011, there has been a few improvements to the magnet and magnet enclosure. Recessed screws now anchor the magnet as well as a raised brass lip to prevent the magnet from chipping. Also they included what they call the “absorber” above the magnet to prevent jitter at certain tuning.
What does a Snareweight do?
Snareweight adds mass to the head which helps to evenly smooth the lower-mid ringing frequencies that can’t be reached with other methods while keeping the tone of your shell in tact. The unwanted ring of the high frequencies are shaped by the chosen insert in a snap by matching the insert with your favorite drum head.
From an engineering stand point with the weight of a Snareweight #5, you get about 2-3 db of compression from your drum, which helps to reel it in for optimum recording levels and sitting in the mix without the need for more outboard gear, eq/compression, usually better to fix it from the source.
