#FUTUREBEAT is back and looking for drumming stars of the future.

Yamaha Drums is delighted to invite entries for 2018’s #FUTUREBEAT. In its 3rd year, this ground-breaking national competition offers drummers aged between 13 – 18 years old a fantastic array of prizes and unique performance opportunities to showcase those funky beats and lightning-fast fills.

To enter, all you need to do is simply film yourself playing Drums, upload the video to a streaming platform and choose your regional location. Then send the link via email along with your details. It’s that easy! Judges will be looking for Jaw dropping grooves, stand out timing and terrific technique.

From the video submissions, 64 promising drummers will be selected to perform live at 8 Regional Finals across the UK. These drummers will play 2 Songs in front of audiences comprising family, friends and members of the general public. Judges will decide on the winning drummer who will win a Yamaha Snare Drum and a place in the Grand Finals at Yamaha Music UK Headquarters in Milton Keynes.

Grand Finalists will receive mentoring sessions with some of the country’s leading professional drummers and have the chance to perform with a professional band, in front of an eminent judging panel who will decide the overall #FUTUREBEAT ’18 winner. They will be presented with a Yamaha Tour Custom series drum kit and also perform live at the prestigious London Drum Show thanks to a new partnership with Rhythm Magazine.

#FUTUREBEAT has become highly acclaimed by drummers and the drum industry which has previously attracted over 500 entries, showcasing over 100 of the UK’s most talented young drummers in Live Regional performances. Partnered by Yamaha Drum Dealers throughout the UK with support by Professional Drum Artists Steve White (Style Council, Paul Weller, The Who), Troy Miller (Amy Winehouse, Laura Mvula), Donavan Hepburn (Take That, E.L.O) & Andrew Small (Kylie, Massive Attack) who have all previously dedicated their time to support up and coming drummers with private mentoring sessions. Prizes

  • The Future Beat finalist will win a Yamaha 5 piece Drum Set and hardware worth over £2000
  • Finalist will be invited to Yamaha Music Europe GmbH (UK) to have Mentoring sessions with leading Yamaha Drum Artists.
  • The Regional Winners will receive a Recording Custom Snare Drum worth over £400

What should my video clip include?

Make sure you demonstrate your ability and style. The video can be made using acoustic or electronic drums. Judges will be looking for groove, timing, technique, versatility and expression. If you record something specific for the competition it can be filmed as simply as on your smart phone. Judging will be made on your performance not the production of the video.

What will happen at the Yamaha #FUTUREBEAT finals?

From the video submissions, 64 young drummers will be selected to perform live on a Yamaha Drum Kit at 8 Regional Finals that will each showcase 8 drummers. These drummers will play 2 Songs in front of audiences comprising family, friends and members of the general public. Judges will decide on the winning drummer who will a place in the Grand Finals at Yamaha Music UK Headquarters in Milton Keynes.

Regional finals will be held at Drum Depot on Monday 17th September 2018 at 6.30pm.

Grand Final

For the Grand Final at Yamaha Headquarters in Milton Keynes, all 8 Finalists will each receive mentoring with some of the country’s leading professional drummers and have the chance to perform with a professional band, in front of an eminent judging panel who will decide the overall #FUTUREBEAT ’18 winner.

There are 3 judging stages, a selection of judges including Yamaha Staff, the DD Crew, Yamaha artists and leading industry figures will all be invited throughout the process. Each of the judges will be marking scores for a variety of factors including groove, timing, technique, versatility and expression.

  • Tickets numbers are restricted and you must therefore be issued a ticket prior to attending the event on Monday 17th Sept 2018.
